www.oceanmew.comWhy I Refuse to use Neocities

@ocean@raru.re I pretty much just use neocities for testing things out

@ocean

if I named the article "Neocities and the Woes of the Centralized Web" you wouldn't have clicked on it

I would always click an oshy blog post link :blobfoxcatsnuggle:

@ilja omg!!! thank mew....

@ocean
Very valid points

Same reasons I recommend people setting up Mastodon/XMPP/Matrix not to use mastodon[dot]social/conversations[dot]im/matrix[dot]org

@easthighNerd @ocean

What happens if Google rolls up to the Neocities team with a multimillion dollar check and buys them out?

I mean, that’s literally what happened to Geocities. I mean, it was actually Yahoo, back when they still mattered, but same point and same problem - they bought them up, enshittified them, and then shut them down when the money dried up.

Neocities is open source. It can be self-hostable. Maybe a federated directory of neocities would be a good solution? oh ... neo-webring! .. that self assemble and self-heal!
